We regret to announce the heavenly transition from Earth to Glory of Mr. Ronald Gilliard, 69, of AWENDAW, SC who entered into eternal rest on April 13, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day. IITimothy 4:7-8
A TIME TO BE BORN: Ronald Gilliard affectionately known as “Shappa” “Donnie” was born August 25, 1951 in Awendaw, South Carolina to the late Henry and Rebecca Gilliard of Awendaw, South Carolina.
A TIME TO LIVE: He was educated in Charleston County Schools. He graduated from Laing High School in Mt Pleasant, South Carolina in 1969. Soon after graduating he enlisted in the United States Navy serving four years. In 1973, he re-enlisted for another term during this time he married Bernadine “Linda” Horlback on November 17, 1973 to this union 3 beautiful daugh- ters were born.
He served as a serviceman in the United States Navy where he was stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia and then returning home to Charleston, South Carolina for the duration of his duty. He worked as a Supply Officer and enjoyed managing the supply chain, human resources and lo- gistic planning. He loved to cook and has worked at various restaurants in the area and adopt- ed the name “Cook” by his patrons.
A TIME TO LOVE: “Shappa” “Donnie” as he was affectionately called will be missed as he touched the lives of many people and maintained his generosity sense of humor all the way until he gained his wings. He was always the life of the party. We will hold on to his memories as the last ten years he has hosted Thanksgiving Day dinner and never missed a beat. We shall continue his legacy.
TRANSITION FROM LABOR TO REWARD: On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, Mr. Ronald Gilliard peacefully transitioned from labor to reward at his daughters and granddaughters side In Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers: Henry Gilliard, Willie Gilliard and Edward Gilliard Sr.
A TIME TO MOURN: He leaves to cherish his six children: Katrina Gilliard, Lekisha Gilliard, Rhonda (Christopher) Brabham, Kayla Heath, Diamante Moore and Godson-Taurean Givens. eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two siblings: Pearl (Curtis) McNair-Wright and Ronald (Rena) Mack; three sisters-in-love: Estelle Gilliard, Celestine Gilliard and Nora Gil- liard; a special and devoted niece, Vanessa Jefferson-Gilliard; five other nieces, eight nephews and family and friends. Lastly, his special cousin and friend Mary Louise “Wease” Burden.
Viewing will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Divinity Mortuary 924 S. Live Oak Dr. Moncks Corner, SC 29461
Life Celebration will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Alfred Williams Community Center, 4441 Durant Ave. N. Charleston, SC 29405
Interment - Greater Zion A.M.E. Church Cemetery 4174 N. Hwy. 17 Awendaw, SC 29429
