Life Reflections of Latasha M. Duncan
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7
Latasha Monique (Smalls) Duncan was born to John H. Smalls, Jr. and the late Robin Renee Holman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 18, 1984. Latasha was known to all as “Tasha.” On April 25, 2021, Tasha’s fight was over, and she earned her wings.
Tasha was raised by her paternal grandmother, Lillian Puryear, who preceded her in death. She started her formal education in the Philadelphia school system until relocating to Charleston, South Carolina with her grandmother Lillian in 1992. Tasha would then complete her formal education in Charleston. She attended James Island High School, and then went on to Penn Foster High School located in Scranton, Pennsylvania to receive her high school diploma. After which, Tasha would venture back to Philadelphia and enrolled in several courses at the Community College of Philadelphia. Years later, after returning to Charleston, Tasha enrolled in Miller-Motte Technical College, North Charleston campus where she achieved the goal of attaining an Associate Degree in Applied Science of Medical Assisting in August of 2018. Tasha was also a member of the Zeta Amicae Auxiliary of Charleston, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated.
Tasha was born with health issues that would prevent her from committing to a long-term work experience. Despite her reoccurring physical ailments, Tasha stayed determined to not let her health keep her from accomplishing any goals she set out to achieve. For the past couple of years, Tasha decided to delve into entrepreneurship by selling women clothing and accessories. She did well until her health once again started to consume her energy.
As a young teenager, Tasha accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a devout Christian, following the Apostolic Faith. During her younger years in Charleston, Tasha was a member of
God’s True Deliverance Church where District Elder Robert M. Grant presides as Pastor. In her young adult years, Tasha came back to Philadelphia to live and joined the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a part of the young adult and prison ministry. Because of her love of God, Tasha met the love of life, Prophet Jimmy Duncan in 2018 in Charleston after returning from Philadelphia several years earlier. Tasha and Jimmy sealed their commitment to one another in holy matrimony in 2019.
Tasha is known as a person who was charismatic, funny, loving, ambitious, caring and loved by all who had the pleasure of ever encountering her presence. Whether in Philadelphia or Charleston, Tasha left a lasting impression that exude nothing but love. Tasha received great joy traveling to and from Charleston to Philly every chance she could to spend time with family. Because of her perseverance and endurance, no one ever knew just how sick Tasha really was.
Preceding her death was her precious grandmother, Lillian; her mother, Robin; her maternal grandfather, Clinton Holman; her paternal grandfather, Bishop John H. Smalls, Sr. and her paternal aunt, Myrtle.
Tasha leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Jimmy; her father, John, Jr.; her maternal grandmother, Ella; her bonus grand- mother, Rose; five aunts: Judy (Bernard), Vanessa (Paul), Karen (Daniel), Sharon and Erika (Devon); one uncle, Rodney; one sister, Keisha; one brother, Jabree; one niece, Nikita; two nephews, Lawrence and Kevin: several maternal cousins who she grew up in the household with to whom she was affectionately more like a sister: Shannel, Temeka, Michael, Toya (Darryl), Kenneth, Chavone, Brittany, Byhira, Bria, Tamir, Khiyana, Khari, Darnell and Cornelius; two goddaughters, Kaylei and Zoe; as well as a host of other cousins, family and friends.
