It is with great sorrow that we announce the heavenly transition from Earth to Glory of Mr. John Benjamin "BJ" Snider, 83, of Jamestown, SC who entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 17, 2021 at PruittHealth - Moncsks Corner, SC. Please keep his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Rev. Gloria G. Snider, his two heartbeats his loving children, Winifred V. "Winnie" Snider and Apostle Wayne V. Snider and the entire Snider and Gary family in your prayers.
Due to COVID restrictions, the family will not receive visitors at their home. The family thank you for your prayers and understanding during this difficult time.
LIFE REFLECTIONS OF JOHN BENJAMIN "JB" SNIDER

Mr. John Benjamin “JB” Snider was born on September 19, 1938, to the late Robert Snider, Sr. and Lucinda Ramsey Snider in Shulerville, SC. “JB”, as he was affectionately known, was raised among his late grandparents Frank “Poppa” Snider, Sr. and Hessie “Titta” Singleton Snider.
“JB” attended the public school system of Berkeley County. After graduating, he attended Morris College in Sumter, SC where he received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology on August 12, 1963.
During his time at Morris College, “JB” met the love of his life, Gloria Laray Gary. They entered into holy matrimony on January 9, 1964 and to this union, two children were born.
After graduating from Morris College, “JB” went on to teach at Finkley High School in Loris, SC and later Bonds Wilson High School in North Charleston, SC. Upon integration, he was transferred to R.B. Stall High School in North Charleston, SC where he taught Biology. Prior to retirement, “JB” held the position of Administrative Assistant and Supervisor over transportation.
“JB” was a faithful member of Wesley A.M.E. Church until his health failed. He was appointed the first Chairman of the Finance Committee under the pastorate of the late Rev. Henry X. Pinckney, first Lay Organizational President and served many years on the Steward Board. “JB” also worked faithfully for over 25 years as a member of the A.M.E. Church Lay Organization serving the local church, Mt. Pleasant District, Palmetto Conference, 7th Episcopal District and on the Connectional Level. He was selected “Layman of the Year” for the 7th Episcopal District A.M.E. Church on April 1, 1995.
On the evening of January 17, 2022, “JB” transitioned from his earthly home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Francis Walden (Gertie Mae) Ramsey, Peggy Lou Snider, Rev. Robert “Bob” (Inez) Snider, Jr., Chrishdel Freddreka (Charles) Richards and Arthur Lee Snider, Sr.
John Benjamin “JB” Snider leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Rev. Gloria Gary Snider; children, Winifred “Winnie” V. Snider and Apostle Wayne V. Snider; grand-children: Elder Geoffrey E. (Selea) Dean, Phillip J. Dean and Pastor Ronald (Erin) Bennett; great-grandchild, James Dean; adopted children: Minister Elizabeth Bowens, Pastor Marla (Apostle George) Bennett, Bishop-Designate Byron Sawyers, Sr., Apostle Kenneth Jenkins, Rev. James C. Brown, Georgetta Brown and Kimberly Wise; siblings: Mr. Lucious (Evelyn) Snider, Ms. Geraldine S. Harrell, Mr. William (Adelaide) Snider, Mrs. Florence B. Day, Mr. Lee Floyd (Chandra) Snider and Rev. Dr. St. Julian (Gwendolyn) Snider; sister-in- love, Francine Snider; aunts-in-love, Mrs. Emily G. Myers and Mrs. Alma Hall; daughter-in-love, Apostle Miriam D. Snider; devoted neighbors, Deacon Gerald & Georgia Fordham and family; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, adopted grandchildren, adopted great-grandchildren and loving friends.
John Benjamin "BJ" Snider will lie in state one hour before the service, there will be no viewing at the end of the service. Please see service details below.
