CLARENCE HENRY Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clarence Henry, 67, of St. Stephen, SC who entered into eternal rest early Tuesday morning, May 2, 2023 at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center in Columbia, SC. Clarence will forever be the loving father of Brandon Henry & Brittany Henry, 2 loving grandchildren that he adored; loving brother of Lelia Pompey (Willie), Thomas Henry (Linda), Wilson Henry (Diane), Rosa Lawson (Glenn), Maxine Moore (James) Alfred Henry (Paul); 1 aunt/Godmother Willamae Spry; special friend QueMiller Glover and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

 

The family will be receiving relatives and friends at their residence. A face mask is required to be worn and kept on at all times while at the residence. You are welcome to leave your condolences on our Tribute Wall.

 

LIFE REFLECTIONS OF CLARENCE HENRY

Clarence Henry, was born on January 29, 1956 in Manning, South Carolina to the late Wilson & Ella Louise Henry. He departed this life on Tuesday, May 2,2023 in Columbia, SC.

Clarence graduated from Manning High School in 1976. Clarence was employed at Georgia Pacific for 20 plus years. Santee Cooper for 22 years.

Clarence accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and joined Pine Grove AME where he served on the Male choir and the usher board.

Clarence met the love of his life the late Ruth Ann Henry and married her on July 7, 1984. They were blessed with two wonderful children, and two grandchildren.

Clarence was a sweet, loving and caring person. He enjoyed working with the youth where he was a well-known coach for the St. Stephen Recreation Department. He was a father figure to many. His motto will always live on “stay humble in life.”

Clarence had a major love for classic trucks, sports, and grilling. He enjoyed frying fish and grilling for any occasion. Sunshine or rain Clarence didn’t mind cooking. Clarence was also known as a great 1st base softball player for the “Pineville Pirates”.

He is preceded in death by: Ruth Ann Henry (Wife), Wilson Henry (Father), Ella Lousie Henry (Mother), Evelena Dupree (Sister), Leroy and Lottie Smalls (In Laws), and Albert “AJ” Smalls Jr (Godson).

Clarence leaves to cherish his loving memories his daughter Brittany Henry, son Brandon Henry, of St. Stephen; two grandchildren, Bryson Henry and Bailey Cleveland; his siblings, Lelia (Wille) Pompey, Thomas (Linda) Henry, Wilson (Diane) Henry of Manning, SC; Rosa (Glenn) Lawson, Maxine (James) Moore of Columbia, SC, Alfred (Paul) Henry of Manhattan, NY; His sisters & brothers in law, Viola Griffith of Maiden, NC, Noel Smalls, Renee Smalls both of Pineville SC, Harry Lee (Elouise) Smalls of Irvington, NJ, Jerome (Hannah) Smalls, Henry (Debra) Smalls, O’Toole Theirse of Pineville, SC, Albert (Gwen) Smalls of Moncks Corner, SC; his aunt/Godmother, Willamae Spry of Columbia, SC; special and dear friend of the family Elizabeth Carol of St. Stephen, SC; best friend, Willie Jones of Moncks Corner, SC Santee Cooper Family, special friend QueMiller Glover and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

 

SERVICE DETAILS:

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Divinity Mortuary. A FACE MASK MUST BE WORN NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

Life Celebration Service of Mr. Clarence will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1339 Colonel Maham Dr. Pineville, SC  Pastor Terris Green ~ Pastor 

Rev. Dr. Betty Deas-Clark ~ Eulogist   A FACE MASK MUST BE WORN INSIDE THE SANCTUARY.

 

Interment: Pine Grove AME Church Cemetery, 5865 Kenwood Rd. Manning, SC 29102.
