We regret to announce the passing of Mary Lee Washington Tention, 86, of McClellanville, SC,. who entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.

Life Reflections of Mary Lee  Washington Tention

Mary Lee (Washington) Tention was born August 28,1933 in McClellanville, SC to the late Christine Johnson (Tena Washington).  She was the youngest of three children and the only girl.   Mary Lee departed life on June 10, 2020 at home in Cameron, NC.  After graduating from Lincoln H.S. she moved to New York City in the early 50s and started her career as a nursing assistant.  In 1954 she married her classmate Francis Tention from her hometown and together they raised 5 children in the Bronx.  She dedicated her life to Christ at a young age as a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in McClellanville, S.C.  While living in NYC she joined Seven Lights Baptist Church in the Bronx, NY and after relocating to NC she joined Galilean Deliverance Church of Charlotte, N.C.

Mary Lee was a member of The Order of The of Eastern Star in the Bronx.   She worked at Bronx Psychiatric Center for over 35 years as a nurse and upon her retirement she relocated to Charlotte, N.C.

Mary Lee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who always encouraged others to trust GOD.   She will be truly missed by many.  Preceded in death by Francis Tention(husband), Rufus Washington (brother) and Tremaine A. Tension (grandson).

She lives to cherish her memories: 5 children Rasheedah(Audrey) Shamsid-Deen (Yaqub), Rufus Tention, Francis Tention (Sarah), Karen Tention, JoAnne Coleman (John), and stepdaughter-Cheryl Durley(Herbert) and stepson Wilford Brown (Hestelle),  9 grandchildren Tavares Ali Shamsid-Deen(Cheree), Yusuf Shamsid-Deen (Saghirah), Fatima Shamsid-Deen, Muhammad Shamsid-Deen (Sarah),  Tahirah Shamsid-Deen(Akirah) Cynthia Brunson, Anissa Tention, Fatima Grant, Francis Rashad Tention and 24 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
