" LIFE REFLECTIONS OF MARY LOU LEGREE "

"Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day,  II Timothy 4:8

Mother Mary Legree, a beloved servant of God, was born in the Kittfield Section of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, as the youngest daughter of the late David and Lucinda Legree. A prayer warrior and bible reader, she dedicated her life to Jesus Christ as a young woman and exemplified a life of prayer and devotion.

Mother Legree graduated from High school in 1954, moved to New York to work before returning home with her two children many years later.

Mother Mary Legree attended Moncks Corner Baptist Church from the 1st grade until the age of 11 years old. Mother Mary Legree joined Mitten Lane Holiness Church at the age of 12 under the leadership of the founding Elder, Deacon Herbert Wigfall and Deacon Ob Pou. As a member of the Mitten Lane Holiness Church in Mitton Lane, (Moncks Corner) South Carolina, Mother Legree grew to love the Word of God. Later in life, she joined the Free Will Holiness Church in Mitton Lane, where she continued to be a member until her death.

Mother Mary Legree was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Benjamin and Jessie Legree; and her sisters, Catherine Legree, Nathalie Brown, Leona McKelvey, and Daisy Gadson. She is survived by her sister-in-law Cheryl Legree, her oldest cousin Rev. Pauline Trescott, her children and a host of family members.

Known for her prayer life, Mother Legree was often heard lifting the names of her children, Arnetta and Allen Legree, her family, Pastor and Sister Reid, and Community members in prayer daily. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Inelle and "Popeye" McKelvey; Rev. Delbert, Rev. Shelia, Lucinda, Wilhelmena "Midget", Charles Brown; Michael and Shawn Legree; Carolyn and Randy Wigfall, Cheryl, Shamel and Forest Moorehead. While she loved all her many nieces and nephews, she shared a special bond with her oldest nieces and nephews Doris, Jessi "Bobi" Legree, Joyce McKelvey, Veronica Legree, and Janie Mae McKelvey, whom she cared about as if they were her own children. Other nieces and nephews include Lavenda, Estella, Alfreda, Althea, Samuel, Rollie Jean McKelvey, Ronnie Brown, Raymond Legree and many more.

Although Mother Mary Legree was the natural mother to only two children, her heart was open to many. She became a loving grandmother figure to countless "adopted children," to include Angela and Danny Williams, Susan, Berta, Johnny Holmes and Carolyn McCutcheon all of Mitten Lane, South Carolina.

Mother Mary Legree's legacy of prayer and faith will forever remain in the hearts of all who were touched by her life. While she will be greatly missed, we celebrate the assurance that she now rests peacefully in the presence of the Lord she served so faithfully. We can rest knowing that she lived a long and prayerful life.

A life well lived, a soul now at peace.
