LIFE REFLECTIONS OF GEORGE L. SIMMONS

Well done, thy good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord. Matthew 25: 23

With hearts both heavy and full of gratitude, we gather to honor the life and legacy of George Lafayette Simmons, a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, whose journey of faith, family, and service left a lasting mark on all who knew him. George entered into eternal rest on July 20, 2025 at MUSC Hospital in Charleston South Carolina.

George was born on October 15, 1935 in Jamestown, South Carolina.

George was the beloved son of the late Lafayette Simmons and Mable Simmons. At the tender age of 16, he ventured north to Baltimore, Maryland, where he began building a life rooted in hard work and quiet strength. He dedicated 21 years of service to Sparrows Point, forging bonds and a work ethic that would shape the rest of his life.

George was joined in holy matrimony o n December 25, 1971 , to the apple of his eyes of 53 years, his loving wife Roslyn Simmons. Their union was blessed with four children: Torano, Charmonique, Dakari and his baby girl Natasha who preceded him in death.

George eventually returned to his Southern roots in South Carolina, where he reunited with his family's home church, New Mount Zion AME, Jamestown ,SC serving faithfully on the Trustee Board. His commitment to service extended beyond the sanctuary and into the workforce. He spent 25 dedicated years as a Deck Operator at Georgia Pacific Plywood, and after retiring, he continued to work with pride— first as a custodian for the Berkeley County School District, and later as a beloved door greeter at Wal-Mart, in Moncks Corner, where he worked for five years until health concerns brought his career to a close.

George a man of simple joys and deep faith in God, loved cutting grass, fishing, and listening to gospel music, always finding peace in nature and praise.

George is survived by his devoted wife, Roslyn Simmons of Jamestown, SC, sons: Torano (Monisa) Waters of Washington D.C., Dakari (Latisha) Waters of Charleston, South Carolina, George Alfred Simmons, George Lamont Simmons, Eddie Lee Simmons, Donnell Simmons, Michael Simmons, and Kevin Hart all of Baltimore, Maryland; daughters Charmonique (Michael) Lambert of Woodbridge, Virginia, Aisha Hart, and Vivian Simmons of Baltimore, Maryland.
