LIFE REFLECTIONS OF EULA MAE "MING" WHITAKER - PETTIGREW

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall  never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  John 10:27-29

Amazing Grace How Sweet the Sound on July 10, 1949, the late Harry and Martha Taylor Whitaker were blessed with their third child, Eula Mae. Eula was born in Jamestown, SC and spent the majority of her life in the Savannah Creek Community. Eula, who was lovingly referred to as "Ming" attended the Jamestown Elementary School and she was a proud member of the graduating class of 1967 from Russellville High School.

Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow Ming was a hard working woman who provided for her family. During her life she held various jobs. Her very first job was at St. Stephen Knitwear. She was also employed at Santee River Wool Combing ,and Oneida Knit wear. Ming spent many years as a Bus Driver for the Berkeley County School District transporting students to and from school. She had animated stories about her adventures while driving on the bus. Ming worked as a Caregiver with Berkeley Citizens and after years of dedicated service she retired from this position. The jobs she had prior to retirement showed her willingness to help and care for others.

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee Ming enjoyed many things in her life. As you know, she always took pride in the way she looked. For many years she made her own clothing and loved getting her hair styled by her Cousin Naomi. Her favorite pastimes were shopping in Belk and Dillard's. When she was unable to get out, she did her share of online and catalog shopping too! Ming appreciated the beauty of plants and flowers and having them around her. Her son's built her a deck on her house so that she could enjoy her plants. When she was able, she found peace by the water casting her rod for fish. Cooking and baking for her family meals was another way that Ming expressed her love for them. Ming read the word of God daily and found solace in doing so. She found pleasure in completing word searches and collecting ink pens. One of her greatest joys was being in the company of her grandchildren who accompanied her to the store and helped with her errands. She loved just being able to hear them in the background.

Oh, How I Love Jesus, Because He First Loved Me! Ming loved the Lord. She grew up in New Emmanuel A.M.E. Church, under the leadership of Mighty Men of God. She started under the watch of the late Reverend Scott, the late Reverend John Gillyard, Reverend Harry Frazier, and currently Reverend Wallace Harrell. Ming labored for the Lord in various ways at New Emmanuel. Ming served as a Steward Officer for many years and assisted with official business of the church. As the church secretary, she handled administrative tasks. In her role as Kitchen Ministries Head, she made sure the kitchen was in order and people were fed. Being a Missionary, she was able to introduce others to His word. While working as an usher and presiding over the Usher Board, she helped to maintain order in the sanctuary. However, what she loved to do the most was sing His praises on the Young Adult and Senior Choirs where she served as President. On Sunday, Ming sang her finale as she led the church in her rendition of "Down Through the Years the Lord's Been Good to Me". This was definitely her testimony to all that she has been through with God by her side. On Sunday, she sang from a deep Holy Place inside her as she knew she was preparing to meet her Savior.

It Is Well With My Soul In addition to her parents, Ming was predeceased by her infant son, Larry, her brothers Walter Taylor, Reverend Harry Whitaker, Jr., and her brother in law Otis Harvey. Ming was loved and adored by her family and her memories will forever be cherished by her three sons: Gregory (Kimberley) Whitaker, Jameiro Pettigrew, Sr., Gary Pettigrew; three siblings: Claudia (Issac) Varnish, Shirley Harvey, Richard Whitaker; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Whitaker and Wilma Taylor; one aunt, Shirley (Willie) Matthews; twelve grandchildren: Aliyah (Stedman), Craig, Ciera, Chandler, Chase, Janiya, Jameiro Jr, Jade, Rylin, Shauntia, and Garyn; three great-grandsons: Mekhi, Stedman, Jr, and Mason, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

What A Friend We Have In Jesus. Ming loved spending time with her special friends who will miss her dearly Fannie Williams, Ruth Ferguson, Naomi Cuttino, and Vivian Nole.

I Come To The Garden Alone We find comfort in knowing that Ming has done everything to prepare herself for this journey.
