Life Reflections of Chesley "Step" McConnell

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3: 5-6

Chesley "Step" McConnell, was born to the late Willie and Carrie Langley McConnell in Shulerville, SC. While growing up in Shulerville "Step" as he is affectionately known by many grew with the love of hunting and truck driving.

Step was married to the late Nettie Britt-McConnell.

Step accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior under the leadership of the late Elder Theodore Anderson Pastor of Jehovah Holiness Church. Later in life, Step became apart of the New Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church family under the leadership of Reverend Wilford Kinlaw.

Step had a passion for truck driving, which grew over the years. He was a long distance 18 wheeler driver with the Morrison Trucking Company & Albert Nole Logging, now Nole Boys Logging, LLC, from which he retired. He enjoyed climbing up the Old Cooper River Bridge in his truck, moving at what seemed to be 10 mph, shifting gears with a calm cool smile.

Step's love for hunting was evident. If you visited his home you would see a deer head mounted on the wall, and with much pride he could tell the story of how it all came about.

Step was the oldest of eight children, Ora Lee (Willie) Riley (deceased), Pauline (Lucious) Riley (deceased), Willie (Valeria) McConnell, Jr., Rosemary Williams, Maxine Dixon (deceased), Irving Williams (deceased) and Dorethea Williams (deceased).

God blessed Step and Nettie with a loving daughter, Eva Mae (his Gal) and God bless Eva with Step's three grandchildren, Odessia (A.K.A. Jody) Oliver, Michael Oliver (deceased) and Mitchell (Monica) Oliver; five great grandchildren, Michael (Lamont) Davis-Frazier, Mickenzy (Kendrick) Myers, Mason Oliver, Madilyn Oliver and Mariah Oliver; four God grands: Grey Singleton (Karen), Sandy Owens of Tampa, Fla, Kareem A. Murray and Marcus Terrell Davis both of Pahokee, Fla.

Psalm 127:4-5 Step love was increased even more with Maydie Middleton and the Middleton Family; Willie Mae Middleton (deceased), Viola Harris, Edward J. Campbell, Mary Francis Middleton, John Middleton (deceased), Herbert Middleton, Maydie Middleton and Christopher Middleton; a special God granddaughter, Brenda Middleton (George Rodgers).

Step was a loving and kind person his memory will live on the hearts of family and friends.
